Plug-In Hybrid Cars VS Hybrid Cars

December 29th, 2010

Hybrid cars are on everyone’s lips. Twenty, forty, or fifty dollars for a full tank of fuel? Who in their right mind wants to pay that sort of money? However, frustrated, the fuel customer sighs, but pays up. However, hybrid vehicles are applauded for the small amount of gas they need to operate, and they are flying off the lots of car dealerships each and everyday in increasing numbers.

But what about a plug-in hybrid? Most consumers have heard that these cars are great as well. So, someone might be asking him or herself, what exactly a plug-in hybrid is? How do they work, and what the difference between a plug-in hybrid and a regular hybrid is?

Plug-in hybrid cars are capable of running just on batteries, but they can also run on fuel also. These kinds of hybrid cars share some of the characteristics of hybrid vehicles. They are also very similar to all-electric vehicles.

Plug-in hybrid cars need to be recharged externally by connecting a plug to an electrical power source. The combustion engine in plug-in hybrid vehicles is engaged only as a back up. These cars can run only on batteries if desired, but it is expected that these kinds of hybrid cars are recharged daily.

Hybrid cars can go just as many miles as a conventional car. Designed to go the extra mile where gas-mileage is concerned, hybrids can be driven on the motorway, in cities, or wherever else anybody wants to go.

On the other hand, plug-in hybrids are designed to handle commuter-length distances, meaning between twenty and sixty miles between destinations. This way, the plug-in hybrid does not have to use its back up combustion engine, but plug-in hybrids can go further using fuel too.

Hybrids help to minimize pollution, but they still pollute the air. Compared with plug-in hybrids, hybrid cars still have a long way to go as far as pollution is concerned. Since plug-in hybrid cars can run solely on their battery power, they don’t have to emit waste fuel emissions at all.

Plug-in hybrids really do reduce total greenhouse gas emissions and plug-in hybrids use practically no oil at all, imported or not. Studies have revealed that electric hybrids emit at least 67% less greenhouse gases than gasoline cars. Since the product used to power plug-in hybrids is completely renewable, the difference in greenhouse gas emissions may be even greater than the study showed.

And so there you have it. Those are the main differences between plug-in hybrids and regular hybrid cars. It makes a big difference, but you would be surprised how little that matters at the current moment. And that’s only because plug-in hybrids are not being marketed to consumers at this present time. But this article should get you excited about the wonderful plug-in hybrid car, coming soon to a forecourt near you.

And it’s going to be a spectacular debut too. People already really like regular hybrid cars, but they haven’t seen anything until they see the new plug-in hybrid cars. However, for now, maybe they should just be satisfied with what they have, because who knows? Before plug-in hybrid cars come out, something even better might be introduced onto the market.

The Energy Crisis And Hybrid Cars

December 17th, 2010

It has been said that not enough people are doing all they can do to struggle against the energy crisis. Hybrid cars can help, but definitely not enough people are driving them. Here are a few problems related to the energy crisis and how hybrid cars can help.

The U.S. isn’t doing enough really. The United States consumes more fossil fuels than any other country in the world. However, most people think that all of our energy problems can be solved if we would only investigate further into the oil deposits in Alaska or if we made full use of the latest discovery of oil in the Gulf of Mexico.

Hybrid cars can result in us not having to use other sources of energy to keep the economy afloat. Hybrid cars won’t cause Americans to consume an excessive amount of fossil fuel. Rather, hybrid cars make Americans use less fossil fuel.

Petrol consumers just accept increasing fuel prices. People used to be concerned that gas prices are much higher now than they were a few years ago. Now, however, people just accept the higher prices. Furthermore, in the meantime, cars are getting bigger and bigger. Vehicle manufacturers are making trucks and SUV’s, which consume more fuel at the higher prices.

These cars use more gas, but you would never believe just how many people will not give up their fuel-guzzling SUV. Hybrid vehicles do eventually cost their owners less to own than conventional vehicles do. So there is no need to be concerned about putting up with being over-charged by the oil economy.

Soon there could be an end to the “cheap oil period”. Soon, we could all be in over our heads, because not only will we have an energy crisis, but a peak oil crisis as well. During the peak oil crisis, there will be fuel shortages and natural gas shortages too. The major countries will need to compete against one another for whatever oil is left.

Therefore, everyone may have some problems, and countries may have to fight for who gets oil and who does not. The peak fuel crisis can be staved off, if more people just purchased hybrid vehicles. Hybrid vehicles ensure that people are not always having to be looking for oil. Additionally, there are advances being made in hybrid cars all the time.

The plug-in hybrid cars, for example, might not even need oil at all one day. So, just in case we do have an energy crisis, Americans ought really to be spending the time to finding a solution to the impending oil crisis in the U.S. Hybrid cars are the way to beat the energy crisis, and if countries still want to fight each other over petrol, at least America will know they attempted to slow the impending crisis by buying hybrid cars.

So, there you have it then. The United States’ mass adoption of hybrid cars would make it so that Americans need less gas. But Americans also have yet to profit from the huge amount of money being made from the manufacture of hybrid cars. The majority of popular hybrid vehicles come from Japan. Therefore, Americans need to bring that money back into the country by making hybrids at home and do something about the current energy crisis at the same time.

Which Celebrities Have Driven Hybrid Cars?

October 1st, 2010

No, it is certainly not true that you will rise to fame and fortune if you go and buy a hybrid car. But a hybrid car is not only a car for the rich and famous. However it might be right for you. Many famous people are driving hybrid cars these days including some of the most well-known in the world like your favourite movie stars. But the big question is, ought you to be driving a hybrid car at all?

So, are you driving anything close to a hybrid car? Well, if you are not, you won’t become pally with some of these hybrid car-drivers. These people were very early drivers of hybrids cars. You may not see them in a hybrid vehicle when they pull up next to you on Rodeo Drive, but trust me, they’ve owned a hybrid car before. Whatever, believe me or not they have been reported as driving hybrid cars in the past even if they were given them for publicity purposes.

Alicia Silverstone This star certainly isn’t clueless about the environment. She knows that driving a hybrid car has many benefits for the environment. And if the general public doesn’t have the knowledge that she has, then that’s just hard luck. Alicia knows that hybrid cars are good for the environment and therefore for everyone. So Alicia Silverstone got herself a hybrid car. So she has helped promote this new technology as far as this article is concerned, which has to be a good thing.

Ellen DeGeneres Now then, this amusing woman not only has a great haircut, but she was driving a great hybrid car even before you probably even knew about hybrid cars and she was probably smiling at you and your gas-guzzler last time she wizzed past you.

Robin Williams funny and lovable, Robin knew when he played the role of Mrs. Doubtfire that he should probably start thinking more like the forward-thinking driver that you would let take your children to and from school, so Robin got himself a hybrid car, and he hasn’t ever looked back since.

Ted Danson Cheers! Ted knows a great car when he sees one. He was certainly sober the morning when he decided to go check out the new cars on the forecourt. He got up and bought a car that made a great deal of sense. He was making good sense when he chose a hybrid car.

Brad Pitt What’s the latest? Certainly, Brad’s gasoline hybrid engine is. He had a hybrid car, so he knows his car isn’t using that much gas.

Prince Charles Why, surely, if it’s good enough for royalty, then it’s good enough for everyone else? That’s just how you should think when you own a hybrid car. You should feel royal, adorned, and admired because believe it or not, that’s just what you are when you choose to drive a hybrid car. So enjoy it.

So, how do you feel? Like a million bucks? Well, you should if you are thinking of buying a hybrid car and don’t worry, you won’t have your 15 minutes of fame, but you will be making a very bold statement that people will understand and many people will appreciate what you have done and that will go on for years and years because hybrid cars last for decade or more.

How Hybrid Electric Vehicles Work

August 3rd, 2010

Have you ever wondered about hybrid cars? They definitely look stylish and modern, but what is it about them that makes them so unusual and so special? After all, most cars look the same these days, do they not? They are all designed by computer to be aerodynamic and aerodynamic is aerodynamic, so they all end up looking impossible to tell apart to anyone who is not an aficionado.

Well, the fact is that the distinction between a hybrid car and a normal car lies under the bonnet. There are various types of hybrid vehicles as well, but the most common kind has a hybrid electric engine. Therefore, you could say that what makes hybrid cars special from most other, ordinary cars is their engine.

Or engines really, because hybrid electric cars basically have two engines. One, the internal combustion engine, runs on petrol, LPG or diesel and the other, the electric motor, runs off electricity stored in an array of powerful batteries. On the other hand, ordinary cars only have an internal combustion engine. It is a good idea to examine these two types of engine separately.

First of all the electric motor. Electrical energy is generated by several components on the car and stored in a large bank or array of heavy-duty batteries. The electricity is created by the turning of the internal combustion engine, just as with a standard car, when it is in use, but also by the wheels or / and the car’s braking system. Different models have different methods of creating this electricity, but they are all very hi-tech and very effective.

When the car’s internal computers determine that the car no longer needs the strength of the internal combustion engine, it will turn it off and switch to the electric motor instead. The circumstances where this might happen are, for instance, when you are driving slowly in inner-city traffic, when you are cruising at moderate speed on a flat road or when you are going down hill. This saves a significant amount of fuel, which is clearly a great saving to you.

However, there are times when you need more power than the batteries can give you, for instance, when accelerating hard, when overtaking or when climbing a hill. At times such as these, the electric motor will close down and the combustion engine will take over and start supplying power to the accelerator and electricity to the batteries. When the need for extra power has ceased, the batteries will take over again.

These choices are all taken by the hybrid electric vehicle’s (HEV’s) on board computer system and you will not notice much other that a surge of power or a quietening of the propulsion system. This works very well in most cases, but some drivers of HEV’s would like to have a manual override for abnormal circumstances, such as an undulating terrain.

All in all, cars with hybrid electric engines work very well at reducing fuel bills but they are still too dear to be much more than a gimmicky toy and a salve to the conscience for the well-to-do.

Owen Jones, the writer of this article writes on many topics, but is currently concerned with hybrid electric engines. If you would like to know more or check out some great offers, please go to our website at New Hybrid Vehicles.

Saving Lives Instead Of Bags

May 1st, 2010

These days, you would find numerous advertisements that say they’ve a lot of branded bags for rent. At first, I thought to myself that the person who would probably go for renting out a designer bag will probably be one who needs to attend social gatherings such as reunions and parties but they just don’t have the bag or purse to match their dress with.

I think it feels funny to carry a bag that does not really belong to you. I believe it’s crazy to rent a Louis Vuitton bag for a whole week for such a tremendous amount that you could definitely buy an actual bag out of it and you get to keep it instead of taking it back to the shop from where you had rented it.

There are a lot of pretty good bag makers out there who can probably match the quality of those designer bags that you are willing to shell out too much money just to have them rented on a regular basis and in the end, you would only realized that it was never yours and it will never be unless you buy one for yourself. But the problem is that since these types of bags are ridiculously very expensive for an average earner to afford, they take advantage of the hype they create with these bags and then that’s when the demand starts to rake in.

No matter what kind of crisis the world encounters, there will still be plenty of Louis Vuitton, Gucci, Prada and Balenciaga bags being sold at a price where you could literally feed an entire household for a month or two. I must admit that I employed to be obsessed with designer bags also, specifically those of Louis Vuitton. On the other hand, upon realizing how much folks happen to be dying and suffering from hunger and malnutrition every minute, I have given up on my quest in saving up for a Louis Vuitton bag.

Despite the fact that I know that I can’t remedy each and every hunger and malnutrition in the world, I will like to discover ways to facilitate in my incredibly own little ways to help to make sure which the cash that I is going to be spending on a thing that isn’t really vital should visit the things that I only desire as opposed to want. I do not see anything wrong with acquiring pricey bags but I just choose not to. I would rather pay a person who makes very good bags and is trying to help to make a living out of it only to satiate both causes. I’ve my bag and he gets to earn out of undertaking my bag.

That way, men and women would certainly know that talent and excellent craftsmanship may keep you alive as you have passion in what you usually are doing. It’s also another way of promoting effort and rewards for doing an excellent job in your area of work. It will not only encourage many who demand your money but it will also encourage individuals who are generally willing to pay a huge amount for a single bag to rather have quite a lot of bags developed through people who could make several bags with positive quality and acquire paid for it. That way, you won’t just save numerous money but you are likely to also save plenty of existence who need more attention than bags that you are saving up for.

Hybrid Cars vs. Conventional Cars

February 22nd, 2010

Today, the question on everybody’s mind is, what is the significant difference between a hybrid car and a conventional vehicle? They suppose that there has to be some good reason why people are asking themselves whether hybrid cars are worth the cost and checking their wallets and bank accounts to see whether they have enough money to get a hybrid car.

There has to be some reason why other people wouldn’t consider shelling out the money for a hybrid car because they feel their conventional car gets them to where they need to go just fine. Here are some of the reasons why a person might choose a conventional car over a hybrid car and vice versa.

Hybrid cars are much more expensive than conventional cars: because hybrid cars have a much more complex internal design, they do still have a fairly weighty price tag on them. However, conventional cars, which have become more efficient as the years have gone on, are quite affordable these days. Many people are selling their old conventional cars in favour of newer, more efficient models.

They are so inefficient in fact, that some people even give their old cars away. However, since a large percentage of the general population has never owned a hybrid, there aren’t many people selling used hybrid cars yet. Therefore, the average person looking to buy a hybrid would probably have to purchase a new one from a car dealer.

Both a hybrid car and a conventional car use a similar type of battery: a hybrid car and a conventional car both make use of lead-acid batteries that have enough power to turn a small electric motor. These batteries are what you call “gear reduced”. That means that they can turn over this electric motor at approximately 300 rpms. Torque is generated to turn over the engine and the entire process is what starts the main petrol or diesel engine.

But even though a hybrid car uses a lead-acid battery, the battery it uses to drive the car’s electric engine is constructed differently. This kind of battery is known as a ‘deep cycle battery’ and it can be compared to the batteries that are used to power electric fork-lift trucks, milk floats or golf carts.

That’s the main difference between a hybrid car and a conventional car. One person might choose a hybrid car because it makes them feel more secure. For instance, if a person buys a hybrid car, they can feel secure that their car will be less likely to run out of fuel. Another person might not choose a conventional car because the cost of gas doesn’t really bother them that much.

However, a conventional car provides security as well, but of a different type. With a conventional car, a person can be sure that they can always go to a junkyard, when they need to replace old parts on their car. On the other hand, those with a hybrid car will probably have to pay some pretty pricey repair receipts if something goes wrong.

However, the final decision is up to you. There are risks involved with both types of cars. But those who like to try out new technology might just consider splurging out on a hybrid car.

Hybrid Car Battery Packs Info

November 20th, 2009

Those considering purchasing a hybrid car may be more than a little worried about what lies under the hood. Hybrid cars have partially battery-powered engines. Since a battery powered motors is not what that typically springs to mind when you think about what is driving a vehicle, it’s a good idea to get some sort of an understanding of hybrid car battery packs. You will find a few salient details about them below.

Hybrid car battery packs do not need to be replaced like torch batteries do. Made to last over the lifetime of the vehicle, a hybrid car’s guarantee covers the battery for a time period that lasts between eight and ten years. In terms of mileage, a hybrid car battery pack is expected to last between 150,000 and 200,000 miles, and it probably will last longer than that.

The toxicity of hybrid car battery packs is a concern, but not a major concern, since hybrid car batteries use NiMH batteries, not the rechargeable nickel cadmium ones. Nickel cadmium batteries can be detrimental to the environment if not disposed of correctly, but the NiMH batteries that are used in hybrid car battery packs are fully recyclable.

Hybrid car battery packs contain hundreds of cells. Hundreds of cells means that hybrid cars have a complex battery underneath their hoods, and complexity does usually mean expensive, but with the generous warranty car manufacturers are giving on these cars, there is little risk of additional massive expense from the battery pack involved in purchasing a hybrid car.

The number of hybrid car battery pack failures has been really low. When I say low, I mean negligible. If failure does occur, it’s usually before the hybrid car even leaves the forecourt. Toyota has even declared that some of its first Prius hybrid models have battery packs that have lasted over 300,000 miles.

The cost of replacing hybrid car battery packs isn’t really even a problem. It isn’t a problem because the hybrid car battery packs are made to last. The DoE inspected hybrid cars, but halted its tests when the capacity of the hybrid car battery pack was determined to be “just like new” after 160,000 miles. So, very few people really seem to know for sure what it costs to replace hybrid car battery packs except the manufacturers.

Hybrid car battery packs are evolving very quickly. If we look into the near future, we can see the next generation of hybrid car batteries is already in the works. The goal is, naturally, to develop the technology so that it gives loads of power, lasts for the hybrid car’s lifetime, and costs less to make than it does these days.

If your hybrid car battery pack does run out, there is an easy solution. Toyota has given some advice on what to do, should your hybrid battery pack run out after the warranty has ended. Their advice is to have the battery reconditioned. This solution works well because if something does go wrong, the problem usually lies with only one of the 28 modules that make up the battery.

The solution is to simply replace the problematic module with one that matches the chemistry of the hybrid car battery pack’s remaining 27 modules, your hybrid car’s battery should be back to new(ish). You can find a matching module by getting a battery pack from another hybrid car of a similar mileage and age.

Buying A Hybrid Car To Save On Gas

November 12th, 2009

When you pull up to the gas station pump and fuel your car up with $10-$40 worth of gas, you may find yourself releasing a long drawn out sigh. How on Earth did petrol become so expensive? Should you consider one of those new hybrid cars you saw on the TV? Everyone’s talking about hybrid cars anyway. Hybrid cars and other types of cars may seem to be a good idea, but before you go out and do something you’ll regret, perhaps you should ask yourself some basic questions about how you can start to save on gas.

There are many options out there that include everything from staying home to purchasing a hybrid car, but you have to find out what’s best for you. You can only do that by asking yourself the following questions.

Should you just drive less?

Of course, you could spend the rest of your life in the house watching movies, but how would you eat then? I know what you’re thinking you will walk more and get more exercise. That may be true, but what happens when you get bored with walking and riding your bike? How are you going to be able to get to the gymnasium? And, have you forgotten about work? You know you love listening to your books on tape while you sit in traffic at the end of the workday. Should you drive less? Perhaps not then. But what should you do? Well, have you ever considered buying a hybrid vehicle?

Perhaps, I should buy a car that is more economical on gas?

Yes, you could do this, but what about when the vehicle starts to depreciate with age and it becomes less fuel-efficient than you thought it would be? Moreover, subconsciously, because you know you have a car that gets more mileage out of fuel, you are going to start travelling more miles than you traveled before.

Should I get up earlier each morning to look for the cheapest gas prices in the area?

Come on, who has the time for all that? If you really think about it, you would probably spend your time more profitably finding the right answer to the real question. Do you really want to spend extra time looking for a cheap fuel station? What would your boss think if you arrive late for work and tell him you were trying to save money on gas? And anyway, how long do you honestly think you’ll keep doing that?

Should I find a way to run my car on electric batteries?

Well, you certainly don’t want to have to recharge your car every day before you go to work because that might make you late too. With a hybrid car, you wouldn’t have to worry about that. Therefore, the next question should be obvious.

Should I purchase a hybrid car?

Maybe you should. It’s possible that buying a hybrid car could be a sensible way to avoid high petrol prices. Does your car depreciate after you drive it off the forecourt? A hybrid won’t do that so readily. It brings the buyer in more and more money as they save on gas. A hybrid car just might be a good choice here. However, it’s still a good idea to conduct further research on a hybrid car.
